Overall Purpose of Position

Specifically, the job holder shall work efficiently in different work environments including
workshops and confined spaces. The Fitter shall follow the correct techniques and produce work in
line with the job duties as indicated hereunder.

Main Accountabilities & Responsibilities

The selected candidate will be expected to:

• Open wastewater manholes
• Ensure the general upkeep of WSC premises, perdorm cleaning of workshops, equipment
and sites.
• Drive heavy vehicles such as Fork Lifters
• Work with power tools and power washer.
• Do trenching and backfilling work.
• Perform duties such as compaction, reinstatement, tarmac curring and pipe chasing.
• Perform signage layout – including the setting up safety equipment, barriers, cones etc.
• Installation of house connections
• Work with jetting/sunction bowsers.
• Check and ensure that wastewater is flowing freely.
• Go down in swers, sumps interceptors to check and clear any stoppages and blockages.
• Remove silt and other obstructing material and transporting same to an authorised disposal site as instructed by his superior.
• Report immediately to his superiors if any leakages of water running in the wastewater network is detected.
• Maintain the wastewater network clean in order to prevent stoppages and blockages.
• Be knowledgable of cable location in order to ensure safety at all times.
• Lay wastewater mains – laying connections pipes with all the related skills including in preparation of connections layouts.
• Repair wastewater mains.
• Lay special paving

•Collect samples as and when required.
• Perform maintenance of mains’ accessories and carry out disinfection.
• Pressure testing.
• Follow a drawing.
• Pipe and valve location.
• Chamber building.
• Work in confined spaces.
• Hoisting and lowering of pipes.
• Participate in and contribute to cross-functional teams as required, consult with relevant
departments, as necessary, and provide training as may be required.
• Co-ordinate with the Quality Unit in obtaining and maintaining certifications and accreditations of the Corporation and participate in internal and external audits, and peer reviews.
• Carry out effectively any other duties and responsibilities and undertake other assignments as reasonably directed by the Management.


Working Conditions

i. Expected to be in, and maintain, a state of health such as would indicate a reasonable prospect of ability to render regular and efficient service;
ii. Expected to work flexible hours in order to meet accountabilities and attend to work after office hours, as may be required;
iii. Abide by rules and regulations issued by WSC;
iv. Consult with other sections as may be required;
v. Expected to maintain oneself abreast with best practices relevant to the post and attend any training which may be provided.
vi. The nature of this position requires the employee to be physically present during working hours as per operational exigencies.

Qualifications and Experience

By the closing time and date of this call for applications, applicants must:

i. Have at least one (1) year work experience within the Corporation at the equivalent of Scale16 or higher.
ii. Be able to communicate in both Maltese and English Languages.

iii. Be fluent in health and safety regulations.

iv. Have a good knowledge and understanding of environmental issues.
v. Be able to follow an engineering drawing in connection with pipe laying projects.
vi. Have a good knowledge of proper water distribution system disinfection practices.
vii. Perform flow testing and maintenance of system components
viii. Have a basic knowledge of using computerised devices.
ix. A valid driving licence category B.
x. Be in possession of a clean police conduct, not older than six (6) months from date of

• Able to maintain a professional approach at all times.

The appointment is subject to a trial/probationary period of six (6) months during which time Appointees (i) will retain their substantive appointments, and (ii) need invariably undergo and pass through a specialized certification course to be organized by the Corporation as per exigencies. Failure to get certified as herein mentioned will automatically render the incumbent as having failed the trial/probationary and they shall return to their substantive grade upon notice issued by the Corporation to that effect.
