Burst water pipe? Act Fast
If you’ve got a burst pipe, you need to act quickly to minimise damage, so here’s what to do:
- collect water from the leak in a bucket if possible
- turn off the stop cock (often found under the kitchen sink, in the under-stairs cupboard, cellar or garage or just behind the front door) and then turn on the kitchen taps to drain the water from your system.
- don’t touch any electrical wiring or switches that you think may have been affected. If in doubt, turn off your electricity at the mains WITH DRY HANDS!
- call a plumber.
Don’t worry if you’re not physically able to do the things above. If a relative, friend or neighbour isn’t around to help, you can call our customer care agents on 8007 6400.
